Featherweight Sarah

Sarah G. Baker, also known as FeatherweightSarah, from Omaha, Nebraska, is a gifted teacher – from her years in the middle and high school classroom substitute teaching anything from language arts to civics, currently full-time teaching language arts to 7th graders, to the time spent at local fabric shops teaching quilting and Featherweight maintenance classes. As a young girl, her mother taught her how to read an apparel pattern. Her love of sewing advanced into making clothes in high school and then maternity clothes & a baby quilt when she was pregnant with her first of three boys.

Sarah has been married to her husband, Chris, for twenty- five years. Sarah has been a pattern tester for Ellis and Higgs, Sallie Tomato, and was a guest blogger for a Sew-Along with The Featherweight Shop in Spring 2021. She was given her very first Featherweight by an aunt and uncle in 2016. Now she is the proud owner of a flock of *gulp* 25+ Featherweights, with her pride and joy being the custom painted Tiffany Blue Featherweight! Over the last eight years, Sarah has taken numerous maintenance workshops by well renowned names in the featherweight world building her knowledge. Her collection was on loan to the Missouri Quilt Museum in Hamilton, MO,  March 2022-2023. She was a guest speaker at the Missouri Star Birthday Bash in September 2022.

In addition to researching, soaking up Singer history, and performing maintenance of Featherweight and other vintage machines, Sarah is co-founder of the Omaha Featherweight Club. Sarah loves to spread her joy and passion for these beautiful vintage machines everywhere she goes. Just ask to see her tattoo.
